The film won India's National Film Award for Best Film in 1955 and Cannes Film Festival awarded the film the Best Human Document in 1956. Spread across three generations, they each face challenges unique to their stage in life. The 1955 film has received the number one slot in the top ten films in the history of Indian cinema list, which was declared after a poll. The rhythm of daily life has a deliberate slowness and small events, such as a sweet seller passing by the house, fruit stolen from a nearby orchard or the promise of better employment, shapes the lives of the three women. Mumbai, Oct 21 (PTI) Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray's feature Pather Panchali has been declared as the best Indian film of all time by International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). Ray's characters have a sharp ring of authenticity and each of their relationships is given space on screen to breathe and develop as he affords them complex desires and motivations. The first in what would become known as 'The Apu Trilogy', Song of the Little Road, introduces the young, inquisitive Apu while focussing on the three women who shape his life: his elder sister Durga, his frustrated mother Sarbajaya and his impish, elderly 'auntie' Indir. Based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's novel, it is a sensitive and poetic story, that explores poverty, class and gender roles with delicate humanism. Satyajit Ray's debut film, Song of the Little Road, takes place across a number of years within a poor household in rural Bengal. pather panchali theme background music Pather Panchali - Bgm 547. None of the introduced characters were chosen, and what came to be Highlander: The Raven featured the recurring character Amanda in a starring role. Of the 13 episodes of season six, two did not feature MacLeod, while in some he appeared in cameos: the producers were experimenting with introducing a new female Immortal character for a spin-off series. In the final episode of season 5, " Archangel", the character of Richie Ryan was killed off and the supernatural demon Ahriman introduced into the storyline. Recurring Immortal characters such as Amanda and Methos made guest appearances in season one, and the Watchers, including Joe Dawson, were introduced in season two. As the series progressed, changes in concept become apparent, as well as normal growth in the characters and their relationships. Relationships formed a theme in the series, especially Duncan MacLeod's relationships with his friends, family, lovers, and foes ( see Duncan MacLeod § Personality and relationships). Storylines revolved around Duncan MacLeod and his relationships with mortals and other Immortals. Now hunted by Quince, he had to face him, and by the end of the first episode, Slan was defeated and Duncan clearly caught up in The Game again. Duncan had been hiding from other Immortals for some time, removing himself from the Game. "The Game" was the term used by the Immortals to describe their hunting of one another, seeking " Quickenings" by beheading their opponents. Connor had come to ask Duncan to return to the Game, to fight on the side of good against evil. Richie Ryan ( Stan Kirsch) was introduced as a thief breaking into their shop and witnessing the confrontation between Duncan, the evil Immortal Slan Quince ( Richard Moll), and Duncan's fellow clansman Connor MacLeod, the hero from the movies.Īlso revealed was that Duncan had lived nearly 400 years, and was one of many such Immortals in the world. The pilot episode established the main character, Duncan MacLeod, and his girlfriend Tessa Noël (played by Alexandra Vandernoot), initially living quietly together as co-proprietors of the antique shop MacLeod & Noël Antiques. If the -vo does not support -fs, I often get around this by using the RCA connection instead of the HDMI on a screen that does not display the entire frame. If uiMode is set to 'mini' or 'full', the height of the control itself must be 65 or greater to accommodate the video display area in addition to the user interface. Kodi is also using about 25-30% at 720p and 35-40% at 1080p movies, so i guess that's normal, although XBMC values are about 5-10% lower on both. For full-screen mode to work properly when embedding the Windows Media Player control, the video display area must have a height and width of at least one pixel. Heres the code Im using to invoke MPlayer in fullscreen. that will let me run a graphical Python app and have an mplayer window at. If you see ff-h264 or something similar, that means it's software decoding. I am developing an application that will run on Linux to run fullscreen all. DVD subtitles (SPU streams, VOBsub and Closed Captions) are supported as well.As long as you see mfc-h264 or something else that starts with mfc- when you hit "o" while playing a movie, that means hardware decoding is working. You could try running mplayer as root and using -vo dga instead of -vo x11. European/ISO 8859-1,2 (Hungarian, English, Czech, etc), Cyrillic and Korean fonts are supported along with 12 subtitle formats (MicroDVD, SubRip, OGM, SubViewer, Sami, VPlayer, RT, SSA, AQTitle, JACOsub, PJS and our own: MPsub). MPlayer has an onscreen display (OSD) for status information, nice big antialiased shaded subtitles and visual feedback for keyboard controls. MPlayer supports displaying through some hardware MPEG decoder boards, such as the Siemens DVB, DXR2 and DXR3/Hollywood+. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, AAlib, DirectFB, but you can use GGI, SDL (and this way all their drivers), VESA (on every VESA compatible card, even without X11!) and some low level card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and ATI), too! Most of them support software or hardware scaling, so you can enjoy movies in fullscreen. Another great feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. To find the latest, browse the Apple App Store or the Android Market (look under "Travel"), or search for tips on travel blogs and websites. New apps are hitting the market every day. This is by no means a comprehensive list. While it's possible to download these apps over any Wi-Fi network, plan ahead and try to grab the ones you want while you're still at home. I've noted whether they're free or must be paid for, and whether they're self-contained (Internet connection not necessary after the initial download) or require ongoing Internet access. All of these are available on Apple's iOS devices through their app store, and many of them are also available for Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry platforms. I've recommended some of my favorite mobile apps below. To be sure you understand your options, see my tips on taking your own phone to Europe. But if you have a smartphone or tablet with mobile data capabilities, you can incur outrageously high data roaming fees if you try to access these apps while not logged in to a hotspot. With the prevalence of Wi-Fi in most corners of Europe, this is generally not a problem - just find a hotspot and browse away. While it's convenient to be able to access this type of information, there is a catch: For many mobile apps, you need to be online to download the latest information. But you can greatly extend your device's usefulness by downloading additional tools, such as restaurant reviews, translators, and transportation apps. Most devices are preloaded with apps that can come in handy on a trip (such as an alarm clock, compass, calculator, weather, and so on). Apps for smartphones and tablets can be useful both before you leave and while you're traveling. I can’t stress enough how big of a deal two-player support is in a game like this. I also gained a new appreciation for the level and boss designs every step of the way. Other times, I couldn’t rely on my old tricks to bypass powerful foes or circumvent nasty platforming gauntlets. At times, I felt totally overpowered (in a good way). Inti Creates did a fantastic job of shaking things up across these story “episodes.” The broader content remains largely the same, but it doesn’t wear thin. You’ll have access to different characters on each of the four main playthroughs (the last of which has a pair of exciting bonus stages), so if you’re worried you missed Miriam, Alfred, and Gebel, don’t sweat it. In terms of sequel refinements, the checkpoints are more considerate and clear, the bosses are more elaborate (and they have health bars), and the multi-playthrough payoff is much stronger.Īs I alluded, replayability is a huge priority for Curse of the Moon 2. The world-map progression is linear, but the levels are layered with alternate routes, character-specific shortcuts, and secrets. Like the last game, you’ll cut down demons in eight densely-packed levels, picking up recruits (and permanent upgrades to your health and energy reserves) along the way to each boss battle. As long as you smash every candle in sight, you’ll stay topped up. Everyone has an individual life bar, but they share a common mana-like resource for special attacks. The first game’s character-swapping conceit is back for round two, and not only does the original roster return, there are three new playable characters.īetween the spear-stabbing Dominique, the bomb-chuckin’ sniper Robert, and Hachi – a dog in a mech that can stomp on spikes, hover in place, and temporarily go invincible – there’s a character for every playstyle. If Curse of the Moon only starred its sword-slashing lead protagonist Zangetsu, it would still be pretty good, but not nearly as memorable or fun. Over the weekend, I happily cleared the sequel four times – twice alone, twice in local co-op – and it’s still calling my name.īloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 (Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One) And if you’re wondering how much more mileage Inti Creates could possibly get out of its Castlevania III tribute, I have great news.īloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 isn’t the kind of modernized retro game you’ll tear through once or twice only for it to slip out of sight and out of mind, never to be touched again. If you’ve only played one but not the other, you should reconsider. The latter is a single-sitting action-platformer that would’ve been an ideal rental back in the late ’80s or early ’90s. The former is a satisfying level-grinding power fantasy across a sprawling, secret-filled map. They’re both great for different reasons. Modern Castlevania fans have the IGA-led Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and classic Castlevania fans have the 8-bit-style Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. Classic Castlevania vibes with a modern co-op twistĮven if Konami has firmly planted itself on the sidelines, it’s a darn good time to be a vampire hunter. On the other hand, if your faux suede item is labeled as “fleece” or “faux fur”, this means it probably has no waterproof coating on it. This is because rain-friendly usually only applies to items with a water-resistant coating on them, which means they’re waterproof. If your faux suede clothing or shoes say it’s rain-friendly, then that means it’s waterproof. If you touch it and feel its surface feels dry, matte, or suede-like in texture, then it’s waterproof.Īnother way you can tell if the faux suede is waterproof is by checking its label. This, however, is not the case for faux suede that’s waterproof. This means whatever material this faux suede is made of will absorb liquid when in contact with it. If your hand glides across the material and you feel a smooth, oily-like texture, then it’s not waterproof. This is because the coating on your faux suede is strong enough to let water slide off its surface, which means it’s waterproof.Īs you may have guessed right, you can also tell the faux suede is waterproof by touching it. In some cases, the water may bead up on the material’s surface in which case, it’s still waterproof. This means it’s waterproof and able to keep liquid out! If you place any part of your faux suede item in water, you will see that the water is not absorbed. This means this kind of faux suede is not meant to be worn in wet conditions.Īnother way you can be sure if your faux suede is waterproof is by trying to soak it and seeing what happens. If the faux suede has a matte finish with no shine, then it probably has no waterproof coating. If the faux suede has a plastic-like shine to it, this means that it has been coated and is waterproof. Usually, what you would be looking out for is if the material is shiny or matte. One of the easiest ways to tell if a faux suede material is waterproof is by looking at it. Some will be waterproof while others won’t be. How Can You Tell If Faux Suede Is Waterproof?Īs I mentioned earlier, there are different kinds of faux suede. If this happens, you will notice the material absorbs water and becomes wet easily to touch. This is why it’s important to properly care for your faux suede clothing.Ģ Simple Ways To Remove Creases From Faux Leather However, this coating isn’t necessarily one hundred percent waterproof. If you’re looking for faux suede that isn’t waterproof, this is probably not the right fabric for you.įaux suede that is not waterproof will typically be labeled as “fleece” or something similar to that.Īll in all, it’s safe to say faux suede is coated with a waterproof layer, which makes it water-resistant. Like I mentioned earlier, this helps make it impermeable to liquid. Faux Suede Comes With Vinyl or PVC CoatingĪnother thing that makes faux suede waterproof is the fact it has a vinyl or PVC coating. This is true of faux suede, which is made with polyurethane and polyester. In order for a material to be waterproof, it usually needs to have plastic or rubber in its makeup. Faux suede uses a different kind of material from regular suede, which means the two are not comparable. The main thing that makes faux suede waterproof is the material that it’s made of. Sometimes, people refer to faux suede as “polyester.” While this is technically correct, it can be misleading because there are different kinds of polyester.įaux suede is made from one particular kind, which means it can be considered a type of faux suede. I’m going to start off by briefly saying that faux suede is made of polyurethane and polyester. To learn more about this topic, keep reading this article. In some cases, faux suede will come treated with an additional layer of water-resistant coating. So is faux suede waterproof? Faux suede is made of polyurethane, polyester, and polyvinyl materials and because these materials are synthetic and not porous, they do not absorb water. So in this article, I’m going to share with you the results of a couple of tests I did. I know what you’re thinking: “Faux suede? That sounds like a joke! How can something so fake be waterproof?” And I get it. God is therefore not only claiming ownership by this measurement of the Temple and the altar but demonstrating the shortcomings of the worshipers who do not measure up to His standard. Even a person very tall would fall short of the ten-foot measuring rod. It also implies, inasmuch as the reed is ten feet long, that man comes far short of the divine standard. It is saying in effect that God is the judge of man’s worship and man’s character and that all must give an account to Him. For this reason it is most significant that John is instructed to measure not only the Temple and the altar but also the worshipers. Originally constructed for the worship of the Jews and the renewal of their ancient sacrifices, during the great tribulation it is desecrated and becomes the home of an idol of the world ruler (cf. The Temple here is apparently that which will be in existence during the great tribulation. The act of measuring seems to signify that the area belongs to God in some special way. Still another instance is Revelation 21, where the new Jerusalem is measured (21:15-17). Another instance is found in Ezekiel 40, where the Temple of the future kingdom is carefully measured with a reed. In Zechariah 2, a man is seen measuring Jerusalem, a scene which evidently portrays God’s divine judgment on the city. The explanation given is that this is given to the Gentiles and that the outer court as well as the entire holy city will be under Gentile dominion for forty-two months.Ī number of questions can be raised concerning this symbolic picture. Although John is commanded to measure the Temple and the altar and them that worship therein, he is instructed not to measure the court without the Temple. Only priests could go into the Temple, but others who were not priests could approach the brazen altar with their sacrifices. The altar may be a reference to the brazen altar which was in the outer court although the altar in chapter 8 seems to be the altar of incense. The Temple of God (Gr., naon tou theou) refers to the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, not the outer court of the Temple. This command to measure the Temple of God makes John the actor as well as the observer. It may actually be the voice of God rather than the voice of the angel, if the angel of chapter 10 is not Christ Himself. As there is some question whether the angel actually says this, the phrase “it was said” could be substituted. The introductory phrase, “the angel stood saying,” is not in some manuscripts though found in Victorinus and in the Armenian version. John is instructed to measure the Temple of God, the altar, and them that worship therein. This reed is commonly grown in the Jordan Valley, and because of its light weight it constitutes a good measuring rod. In the opening verse of chapter 11, John is given a reed compared to a rod. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. The Measuring Rod of God (11:1-2)ġ1:1-2 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. In 11:1-14 there is a continuation of the same subject as in chapter 10. In chapter 15, the chronological developments continue as the contents of the seventh trumpet, namely, the seven vials, are manifested. With the exception of 11:15-19, introducing the seventh trumpet, the narrative does not advance in these chapters and various topics are presented. These major assumptions provide an intelligent understanding of this portion of prophecy even though the possibility of difference of opinion on the part of the reader is taken for granted in some of these judgments.Ĭhapter 11 of the Revelation continues the parenthetical section beginning in chapter 10 and extending through chapter 14. The death of the witnesses is literal as are their resurrection and ascension. The seven thousand men who are slain by the earthquake are seven thousand individuals who die in the catastrophe. The three and a half days are taken literally. The two witnesses are interpreted as two individuals. The time periods are taken as literal time periods. Hence, the great city of 11:8 is identified as the literal city of Jerusalem. The guiding lines which govern the exposition to follow regard this chapter as a legitimate prophetic utterance in which the terms are taken normally. Even Alford attempts to spiritualize the city, the temple, and the events portrayed in this chapter. Careful students of the book of Revelation will probably agree with Alford that chapter 11 “is undoubtedly one of the most difficult in the whole Apocalypse.” 208 A comparison of many commentaries will reveal the widest kind of disagreement as to the meaning of this chapter.
